I find it amusing that the oil derricks in the Permian Basin resemble dinosaurs. As children, we are often told that oil comes from the remains of dinosaurs. However, it actually comes from the remains of ancient marine organisms such as plants, algae, and bacteria. Even though it's not entirely true, it's still fun to imagine these derricks as prehistoric creatures roaming the Texas landscape and extracting ancient remains from the earth.
